Report: Turkey steps up efforts to establish gas hub

ANKARA, Nov 1 (PRIME) – Turkey will approve a roadmap to create a gas hub until the end of the year, newswire Anadolu reported on Tuesday.

“Turkey continues to work on turning into an international natural gas hub. Ankara plans to fulfill the idea through participation in international energy projects, creation of LNG facilities and the fact that it is the only gas market in the region,” it said.

“After Moscow’s suggestion to create a gas hub to supply Russian gas to the international markets in Turkey this work became more active. Ankara plans to draw up a roadmap to achieve the goal until the end of the year.”

According to the newswire, Turkey has been trying to establish international gas trade hub for some time before Russia's offer.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier ordered the governments of both countries to work on creation of a gas hub in Turkey swiftly and in detail. The hub could be used to transfer transit of gas from the Nord Stream pipelines to the Black Sea region, and Erdogan thinks that Europe could receive Russian gas through Turkey.
